2D1N Tabin Wildlife Encounter
Overview of Location
Immerse yourself in the captivating Tabin Wildlife Reserve, where you'll stay at the rustic Tabin Wildlife Resort nestled by the Lipad River. Explore the unique landscapes, from the lush rainforest to the intriguing Lipad mud volcano, home to a vital mineral salt lick for local wildlife. Venture to the stunning Lipad Waterfall for a refreshing dip in its natural pool.
The reserve is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, offering sightings of the Borneo Big 5 — Pygmy Elephant, Proboscis Monkey, Orang Utan, Rhinoceros Hornbill, and Estuarine Crocodile — as well as a diverse array of Sabah’s hornbill species, including the Helmeted, Black, Pied, Bushy-crested, Wreathed, White-crowned, and Wrinkled Hornbills, making it an ultimate destination for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

DAY 1: Lahad Datu / Tabin Wildlife Reserve / Trek to Lipad Mud Volcano

Start your adventure with a convenient pick-up from Lahad Datu and transfer to Tabin Wildlife Reserve.

Upon arrival, check-in and settle into your timber lodge, equipped with amenities like a private balcony, ceiling fan, and hot water shower.

Day 2: Lipad Waterfall / Lahad Datu

Rise and shine! It’s time for an early morning walk to discover some of Tabin’s nearly 300 bird species including the Blue-headed Pitta, Purple-throated Sunbird, Black-and-crimson Pitta, Malaysian Blue Flycatcher, and more.

Journey through the dense rainforest to reach the scenic Lipad Waterfall. Here is where you can enjoy a swim in the natural pool or relax by the cascading waterfall.

As you return to the resort, it is time to check out and transfer back to Lahad Datu – your tour ends here.

Before departing from Lahad Datu, you may ask your driver to bring you to a local shop to buy "adidas kampung" (rubber trekking shoes) – the recommended shoes for trekking through Borneo tropical rainforest. Leech socks may be purchased at the resort shop.
- Ensure you have a confirmed air ticket to Lahad Datu before your trip.
- Standard check-in is at 1400 Hrs and check-out at 1200 Hrs for most hotels and resorts, but times can vary. Please verify the specific check-in and check-out times with us for your accommodation.
- From 1st September 2017, the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture has implemented a Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists must pay a fixed rate of MYR 10 per room per night, payable at check-in, regardless of accommodation star level. Malaysian nationals and permanent residents are exempt from this tax and must show valid identification at check-in to qualify for exemption.
- Suggested flights for Kota Kinabalu – Lahad Datu: Malaysia Airlines MH3012 (ETD 0705hrs / ETA 0800hrs), and Lahad Datu – Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia Airlines MH3019 (ETD 1630hrs / ETA 1725hrs).
