DAY 1: Lahad Datu / Tabin Wildlife Reserve / Trek to Lipad Mud Volcano

Start your journey with a convenient pick-up from Lahad Datu, followed by a scenic drive to Tabin Wildlife Reserve.

Upon arrival, check-in and settle into your charming timber lodge at Tabin Wildlife Resort, featuring a private balcony, ceiling fan, and hot water shower – a touch of luxury in the midst of the forest. The lodge is surrounded by a rich ecosystem beside the Lipad River, home to a diverse array of birds, insects, and small mammals.

Explore the variety of jungle herbs at the resort, many of which are unique to the area and have been used by locals for medicinal purposes for generations.

In the afternoon, take a 20-minute trek to the Lipad Mud Volcano, an important natural mineral source for the region’s wildlife.

Once there, observe the wildlife and bird activity surrounding the mud volcano and identify various animal tracks.

Climb the observation tower to appreciate the stark contrast between the mud volcano and the dense surrounding forest.

After dinner, you will be given a slide presentation on the natural wonders of Tabin.

End your first day with a night walk to spot nocturnal wildlife and bird under a starlit sky.
Day 2: Lipad Waterfall

Choose to sleep in or embark on an early morning bird walk to spot some of the nearly 300 species of birds that inhabit Tabin.

After breakfast, head out on a trek through the vibrant rainforest to Lipad Waterfall.

Enjoy a swim in the waterfall’s natural pool or refresh yourself under its cascade. Spend time exploring the nearby vegetation or simply relaxing in the tranquil surroundings.

In the afternoon, pamper yourself with the Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak, using a blend of natural herbs, perfect for soothing your muscles after the day’s adventures.
Day 3: Tabin Rock Pool / Lahad Datul

After breakfast, take a short walk to the nearby rock pool or riverside, where you may see a group of macaques or other wildlife.

Before departing from Lahad Datu, you may ask your driver to bring you to a local shop to buy "adidas kampung" (rubber trekking shoes) – the recommended shoes for trekking through Borneo tropical rainforest. Leech socks may be purchased at the resort shop.
- Ensure you have a confirmed air ticket to Lahad Datu before your trip.
- Standard check-in is at 1400 Hrs and check-out at 1200 Hrs for most hotels and resorts, but times can vary. Please verify the specific check-in and check-out times with us for your accommodation.
- From 1st September 2017, the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture has implemented a Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists must pay a fixed rate of MYR 10 per room per night, payable at check-in, regardless of accommodation star level. Malaysian nationals and permanent residents are exempt from this tax and must show valid identification at check-in to qualify for exemption.
- Suggested flights for Kota Kinabalu – Lahad Datu: Malaysia Airlines MH3012 (ETD 0705hrs / ETA 0800hrs), and Lahad Datu – Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia Airlines MH3019 (ETD 1630hrs / ETA 1725hrs).
